THE quiet and courageous night, The keen vibration of the stars, Call me, from morbid peace, to fight The world's forlorn and desperate wars. The air throbs like a rolling drum The brave hills and the singing sea, Unrest and people's faces come Like battle-trumpets, rousing me. And while Life's lusty banner flies, I shall assail, with raging mirth, The scornful and untroubled skies, The cold complacency of earth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY A BIRTHDAY by LOUIS UNTERMEYER A VOICE FROM THE SWEAT-SHOPS (A HYMN WITH RESPONSES) by LOUIS UNTERMEYER |
