THE FOUNTAIN, by JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Into the sunshine, full of the light Last Line: Fresh, changeful, constant, upward, like thee! Subject(s): Fountains | ||||||||
Into the sunshine, full of light, Leaping and flashing from morn till night; Into the moonlight, whiter than snow, Waving so flower-like when the winds blow. Into the starlight, rushing in spray, Happy at midnight, happy by day; Ever in motion, blithesome and cheery, Still climbing heavenwards, never aweary. Glad of all weathers, still seeming best, Upward or downward motion thy rest; Ceaseless aspiring, ceaseless content, Darkness or sunshine thy element; Full of nature nothing can tame, Changed every moment, ever the same: Glorious fountain! let my heart be Fresh, changeful, constant, upward, like thee! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE FOUNTAIN by DENISE LEVERTOV THE BROKEN FOUNTAIN by AMY LOWELL FOUNTAIN IN AVIGNON by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE DRINKING FOUNTAIN by ROBERT DUNCAN THE FOUNTAIN (2) by SARA TEASDALE THE FOUNTAIN (3) by SARA TEASDALE ROMAN FOUNTAIN by LOUISE BOGAN AFTER THE BURIAL by JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL |
