SHE PASSED THIS WAY, by ANNA M. ACKERMANN First Line: She passed this way with torch in hand Last Line: She passed this way? | ||||||||
She passed this way with torch in hand, Her heritage from distant land, With footstep firm, and face aglow To guide the way, long years ago, For those who now are in command. Stone temples on gold pavement stand Instead of tents on shifting sand Because, with radiant light to show, She passed this way. Will they keep faith who guard her brand And vigil through dark night demand? On scions of her race bestow The light undimmed by winds that blow So men through aeons understand She passed this way? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LAUGHTER (YOUTH SPEAKS TO HIS OWN OLD AGE) by CONRAD AIKEN THE BARMAID AND THE ALEXANDRITE by KAREN SWENSON THE DESERTED PLANTATION by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR A MONA LISA by ANGELINA WELD GRIMKE THE BROWN THRUSH by LUCY LARCOM THE BATTLE OF LA PRAIRIE, 1691 by WILLIAM DOUW LIGHTHALL WRAITH by EDNA ST.
