TIME, by ANNA MARY ADAMS First Line: When time shall leave this once strong Last Line: Of the deep, still pools of the westward way. | |||
When time shall leave this once strong body weak, Perhaps the disposition then to keep More hours in memory's world with friends of old Who walked our way -- whose vision too will hold Scenes that we love -- may fully compensate For lack of strength to travel in paths new; For there is much of beauty to review Within the life of one who lingers late. There dross is buried in the distant past While gold remains -- oft to prevent a fast When fevered workers through the busy day See not the meaning of their strain and stress; We shall find comfort in the quietness Of the deep, still pools of the westward way. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE CRUEL MISTRESS by THOMAS CAREW FIRE, FAMINE AND SLAUGHTER.
