BE A MAN!, by WILLIAM ALLAN First Line: In the battle rush o' life Last Line: Like a man! Subject(s): Men | |||
IN the battle rush o' life, Be a man! In the never-ceasing strife, Be a man! If at hammer, plough, or pen, Show to a' your fellow-men, duty's creed ye only ken, Like a man! Though your lot is unco hard, Be a man! Though ye reap but sma' reward, Be a man! Life is best when guid an' true, Honest deeds ne'er sink frae view, Richt repays, if ye pursue Like a man! When amid your lowly friends, Be a man! When success your path attends, Be a man! Bear a jealous neebor's hate, Bear the cauldness o' the great, Bear the troubles o' your fate, Like a man! If o'erwhelm'd wi' pain or grief, Be a man! Though your joys gi'e nae relief, Be a man! Stand erect before a foe, Ne'er a coward's effort show, Smile on Death's exultin' blow Like a man! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LIE DOWN WITH A MAN by TONY HOAGLAND WHY ARE YOUNG MEN SO UGLY by TONY HOAGLAND SONG OF MEN by EDGAR LEE MASTERS FIRST LESSON by PHYLLIS MCGINLEY |
