LIFE'S LITTLE DAY, by MARY BALL ARMSTRONG First Line: Over the misty hills at evening time Last Line: Coolness, and quiet, and a lonely cry. | |||
Over the misty hills at evening-time, In level light, a golden stillness falls; Out of the reeds beside the sleeping stream Tremulous, faint, a wandering night-bird calls. The flaming red of morning led to this; Ended in this, the threatening, stormy sky; It was for this, the long hours' heat and strife, Coolness, and quiet, and a lonely cry. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A BROKEN APPOINTMENT by THOMAS HARDY MOUNTAIN LAUREL by ALFRED NOYES SUNDAY MORNING by WALLACE STEVENS ODE TO THE PAST by WILLIAM EDMONSTOUNE AYTOUN FRAGMENTS INTENDED FOR DEATH'S JEST-BOOK: A NIGHT-SCENE by THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES |
