POMEGRANATES, by RUTH FOSS BREWER First Line: Pomegranates in a window, red as pelee's flame Last Line: Sandalwood and desert dominate the street. Subject(s): Pomegranates | |||
Pomegranates in a window, red as Pelee's flame -- Pomegranates in New England, passionate as shame. Peacock palm-trees slanting through an opal haze -- Cream meharis laden as in Sheba's days -- Abyssinian nautch-girls with tempting amber feet -- Jeweled cobras dancing in the latticed street -- Coal-black eunuchs chattering, naked as a faun -- Scimitars and passion, sudden as the dawn. Pomegranates in a window, flaming through the sleet -- Sandalwood and desert dominate the street. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE POMEGRANATE by EAVAN BOLAND PERSEPHONE PAUSES by CAROLYN KIZER ANDRAITX: POMEGRANATE FLOWERS by DAVID HERBERT LAWRENCE POMEGRANATE SONG by ANDRE GIDE THE APPLE WAS A NORTHERN INVENTION by ELEANOR WILNER POMEGRANATE LIPS by D.
