AND JESUS WEPT, by MATTHEW BRIDGES Poet's Biography First Line: Bright were the mornings first impearl'd Last Line: May weep with those that weep. Alternate Author Name(s): Brydges, Matthew Subject(s): Jesus Christ | |||
Bright were the mornings first impearl'd O'er earth, and sea, and air; The birthdays of a rifing world-- For power divine was there. But fairer shone the tears of Christ For Lazarus, o'er his grave; Since love divine bedew'd the sod Of one He sought to save. Sweet drops of grace, the pledges given Of Mercy's mighty plan-- That He, who was the Prince of heaven, Had pity upon man! Let us Thy dear example, Lord, Fix'd in our memories keep-- That we, obedient to Thy word, May weep with those that weep. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MEDITATION ON SAVIORS by ROBINSON JEFFERS COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK TO A WREN ON CALVARY by LARRY LEVIS THE TRANSFIGURATION by EDWIN MUIR SOUNDS OF THE RESURRECTED DEAD MAN'S FOOTSTEPS (#3): 1.
