IN THE SHADOWS, by RICHARD EUGENE BURTON Poet's Biography First Line: As the shadows filled the room with peace Last Line: Missed some beloved face. Subject(s): Faces; Hearts; Peace; Shadows | ||||||||
AS the shadows filled the room with peace, We spoke of our absent friends: How some were dead and some were sped To the far-away earth ends. And by some magic of yearning hearts, The lost seemed warm and near; Yes, loved so much we could almost touch Their hands and feel them here. And when the lamps were lit, and speech Waxed merrier, yet the place Felt strangely bare, and each one there Missed some beloved face. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE ANIMAL INSIDE THE ANIMAL by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN DRIVING ALONGSIDE THE HOUSANTONIC RIVER ALONE ON A RAINY APRIL NIGHT by WILLIAM MATTHEWS NOCTURNE IN A MINOR KEY by CONRAD AIKEN SONATA IN PATHOS by CONRAD AIKEN I LOOKED FOR LIFE AND DID A SHADOW SEE by JAMES GALVIN BLACK SHEEP by RICHARD EUGENE BURTON |
