TOWARDS DEMOCRACY: PART 4. NIGHT, by EDWARD CARPENTER Poet's Biography First Line: Darkness o'erhead, around Last Line: Folding and brooding all the land in silence. Subject(s): Night; Silence; Bedtime | ||||||||
DARKNESS o'erhead, around, A curtain closing down upon the earth, Drowning the woodland tree-tops. Stretching of hands, straining of eyesto feel, to see, To catch the faint faint glamor here and there amid the branches, The wavering dublous forms and presences. No floor, no sky, no sound. Only a soft warm moisture in the nostrils, Folding and brooding all the land in silence. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN AS A MOULD FOR SOME FAIR FORM by EDWARD CARPENTER |
