TO A RANGE HORSE, by PATRICE CLOUGH First Line: They viewed the long parade of yesteryear Last Line: With me beside you through eternity. Subject(s): Animals; Horses; Sonnet (as Literary Form) | ||||||||
They viewed the long parade of yesteryear . . . Montana mountains, where you used to graze On sparse brown grass you found in wooded maze Or barren slope in winter, grim, severe. They saw you standing lone on bleak frontier, Wind-swept, in flurried snow or purpling haze; Your dancing feet, your deep eyes raised in praise To Him, when Spring began to reappear. They miss you sadly, now that you are gone . . . Montana mountains; but I'm sure they see If they but lift their eyes, an emerald lawn, A sparkling brook, warm sun, a friendly tree, Where you are going on beyond the dawn, With me beside you through eternity. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAS THAT REALLY A SONNET? by ANSELM HOLLO RETICENT SONNET by ANNE CARSON SONNET: OF THREE GIRLS AND OF THEIR TALK by GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO WHAT THE SONNET IS by EUGENE JACOB LEE-HAMILTON ON A MAGAZINE SONNET by RUSSELL HILLARD LOINES THE HOUSE OF LIFE: THE SONNET (INTRODUCTION) by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI SING-SONG; A NURSERY RHYME BOOK: 48 by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI |
