FOREVER, by BERTHA MILLER COLLINS First Line: Away and away in the far blue distance, life Last Line: Which is carried away forever, ever . . . Aye! Subject(s): Future Life; Life; Singing & Singers; Retribution; Eternity; After Life; Songs | ||||||||
Away and away in the far blue distance, life invisible vanishes where the rough grey stone with its night-dark spruce leans hard against the sky. Forever's the last soft note that is sung by one who stands in a golden robe where shadows are deep in the vaulted arc. A cowl is over the head. For waiting hands, which are folded across the breast, is held a soul. Now a fragile beauty of self which is carried away forever, ever . . . aye! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY A HYMN FOR PROCESSION WITH CROSS AND BANNERS by SABINE BARING-GOULD |
