PLOW BOY, by VIRGINIA CONNETT First Line: Silent dreamer of the rutted field Last Line: You sense a greater nearness unto god. Subject(s): Plowing & Plowmen; Worship | |||
Silent dreamer of the rutted field, You have contentment in your quiet eyes. What harvest will your lonely dreamings yield, Are they great visions to immortalize? As you stand pensive, by the meadow bars, The quail are calling in the country lane And here you have felt nearer to the stars. You are akin to sun and wind and rain. You know the great simplicities of life And are content that they shall be your lot. You are immune to the conflicting strife Of wordliness -- ambitions are forgot. So close to nature and the fecund sod, You sense a greater nearness unto God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK FOR I WILL CONSIDER YOUR DOG MOLLY by DAVID LEHMAN RUSSIAN CATHEDRAL by CLAUDE MCKAY LITTLE WHITE CHURCH by MARILYN NELSON A STEEPLE ON THE HOUSE by ROBERT FROST MATE (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ANSWER TO PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS by GEORGE SANTAYANA BONAVENTURE (OLD CEMETERY AT SAVANNAH) by VIRGINIA CONNETT |
