THE OLD CASA, by TORREY CONNOR First Line: The moon and I a-tiptoe peer within Last Line: And I am here to see the last rose fall! Subject(s): Houses | ||||||||
The moon and I a-tiptoe peer within: Slim shadows, recross the earthen floor: What if la señorita as of yore Dances tonight to muted violin? Red rose, I climb with you to balcon high! My gran'-dam wore red roses in her braids And leaned, just here, to twilight serenades. Was that the ghost of some fond lover's sigh? White is the moonlight on adobe wall That soon is dustgone with the company That danced and loved and passed but yesterday. And I am here to see the last rose fall! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TWO-RIVER LEDGER by KHALED MATTAWA SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 3 by CONRAD AIKEN FOR THE REBUILDING OF A HOUSE by WENDELL BERRY JERONIMO'S HOUSE by ELIZABETH BISHOP MENDING THE ADOBE by HAYDEN CARRUTH |
