TODAY, by JACQUIN DAVIS First Line: If I had only this one day to live Last Line: With dead, unchanging, useless issues lies. | |||
If I had only this one day to live, Would I thus idly precious moments bide? Would not the time be all too short to meet The pressing duties I now put aside? Tomorrow, like the poppies' evil drug, Leads me to dream of deeds sublimely done. Today, each second usefully employed Might, in reality, my dreams be won. In truth, I know I have but this today. Tomorrow's sun may in my sight ne'er rise, And yesterday, its joys and woes forgot, With dead, unchanging, useless issues lies. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TRUST by LIZETTE WOODWORTH REESE HE WISHES FOR THE CLOTHS OF HEAVEN by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS THE LAST MAN: A DREAM by THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES RUIN by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN THE OLD HOUSE AND THE APPLETREE by VIDA B.
