TO ONE OUTSIDE, by ALICE BOOTH DAY First Line: I held the frail cup carefully Last Line: I softly closed the door. | |||
I held the frail cup carefully -- My timid soul was bare -- I had distilled so prayerfully The wine I sought to share. Your lips defiled the sacrament; A laugh of evil glee Disfigured every lineament In shocking raillery. You dropped the cup disdainfully And stepped outside. My sore Bewildered heart surged painfully; I softly closed the door. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...KEATS; SONNET by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW THE SONG OF HIAWATHA: PICTURE-WRITING by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW COLUMBUS by CINCINNATUS HEINE MILLER SONG (2) by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI THE BELLS OF YOUTH by WILLIAM SHARP THE ETERNAL JUSTICE by ANNE REEVE ALDRICH PEARLS OF THE FAITH: 39.
