CAPERNAUM, by CAROLINE LAWRENCE DIER First Line: Capernaum at sunset Last Line: By the waters of galilee. | |||
Capernaum at sunset -- Beside the blue, blue sea! It almost seems that I was there, So clear it is to me; I seem to have trod that dusty street, One with the eager throng That hurried to meet the Master With joyous shout and song; I seem to have called to the blind And the lame in those little homes, White-walled and low and humble, "He comes, the Master comes!" To Him, when the sun was setting On the shore of the peaceful sea, They brought the sick and the crippled For His tender ministry. And when it was day He departed Far off to a desert place; But the people sought Him and prayed Him To tarry a little space; But He said unto them "Little children, There are others who need the word." So they knelt at His feet rejoicing In the healing Truth they had heard. And now in the long thereafter Waits this blessing for you and me -- The Truth that He taught them at sunset By the waters of Galilee. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GIRL OF CADIZ by GEORGE GORDON BYRON LUCY (2) by WILLIAM WORDSWORTH SINCERITIES by WILLIAM ROSE BENET THE HAND IN THE DARK by ADA CAMBRIDGE BREVITY by MARY NICHOL CAMPBELL MR.
