LITTLE BIRCH TREE, by RACHEL LEWIS DITHRIDGE First Line: Like a child at early morn Last Line: Gleaming through the autumn night! Subject(s): Trees | ||||||||
Like a child at early morn Standing, slender, unadorned, Sleepy smiles upon thy face, Waiting for the coming grace Of thy summer robe of green, -- So, in earliest spring, thou'rt seen. As the spring days wax and wane, Flashing sunshine, glancing rain, Like a maid in modest gown, Shimmering freshness flowing down, Poised, expectant, unabashed As the noontide glory passed! When the summer days have fled, When the leaves have fallen, dead, Dainty, delicate and fair, -- Though disrobed, thou standest there, Lifted face of calm delight Gleaming through the autumn night! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PROBLEM OF DESCRIBING TREES by ROBERT HASS THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MIDNIGHT EDEN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN REFLECTION OF THE WOOD by LEONIE ADAMS THE LIFE OF TREES by DORIANNE LAUX THE ROAD TO AVIGNON by AMY LOWELL |
