Now shall the organ be roused to its utmost passion of power; All the winds of the sky shall grant it their opulent dower! Other instruments, too, shall join in the symphony's maze: Flutes with melodious warble learned amid bird-haunted ways; Sylvan clarinets, the hautboy beloved of the swain; Passionate violins with hearts keyed to joy and to pain; Soulful violas with voices for pathos and yearning desire; 'Cellos with generous thoughts as of noble young men that aspire; Horns whose mellow, deep call sets the huntsman's blood all afire; Trumpets that ring for strife and animate languishing hearts; Drums and cymbals and harps all fill their eloquent parts. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ANNUS MIRABILIS by PHILIP LARKIN OL' BUNK'S BAND by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS ITALIAN MUSIC IN DAKOTA (THE SEVENTEENTH - THE FINEST REGIMENTAL BAND) by WALT WHITMAN MUSIC; AND THE SAVAGE BREAST by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS THAT GENERAL UTILITY RAG, BY OUR OWN IRVING BERLIN by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS THE GERMAN BAND by EARL DERR BIGGERS THE BATTLE MUSIC by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE WITH DEATH THE UNCOUTH by DONALD EVANS A RUSSIAN FANTASY by NATHAN HASKELL DOLE APOSTROPHE TO JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH (PRESTISSIMO) by NATHAN HASKELL DOLE |
