A WORD TO THE WISE, by CAROLINE KING DUER First Line: If wisdom's height is only disenchantmen Last Line: That wisdom is the folly of the wise. Subject(s): Wisdom | |||
IF wisdom's height is only disenchantment, As say the cynics of a certain school, And sages grow more sad in their advancement, Then folly is the wisdom of the fool. Since fools know happiness through lack of knowledge, And see things fair because they shut their eyes, Then any one can tell, who's been to college, That wisdom is the folly of the wise. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SEVEN TWILIGHTS: 5 by CONRAD AIKEN SONG: NOW THAT SHE IS HERE; FOR JOE-ANNE by HAYDEN CARRUTH WISE: HAVING THE ABILITY TO PERCEIVE AND ADOPT THE BEST by LUCILLE CLIFTON WISDOM COMETH WITH THE YEARS by COUNTEE CULLEN FOR RANDALL JARRELL, 1914-1965 by NORMAN DUBIE THE MORTAL WORDS OF ZWEIK by PHILIP LEVINE AN INTERNATIONAL EPISODE (1889) by CAROLINE KING DUER |
