SONG OF THE DAWN, by MARGARET ELLIOTT First Line: Dawn of the morning, a faint crimson hue Last Line: As each contributes to nature's song! Subject(s): Happiness; Life; Singing & Singers; Joy; Delight; Songs | |||
Dawn of the morning, a faint crimson hue Envelops the earth as the stars fade from view. A quiet, and calm, hangs over the hills; Hushed is all nature, silent and still, When up from the grass a meadow lark soars "Awake! sing the songs of the morning," he calls. His song soon is lost to our world tuned ear As he flies far above in the sky blue and clear. But his melody sweet comes back in refrain As the robins and bluebirds take up the sweet strain And pour forth in joy from their own lusty throats The songs, which perhaps are but echoing notes. A soft breeze sweeps over valley and plain, And the sleeping flowers waken again. The buttercup opens her chalice of gold, And the fragrant roses their petals unfold. And hairbells sway on their slender stems; While dew drops glisten like millions of gems. From the brook nearby comes a cadence of song As the water ripples and flows along; Reflecting a bit of blue from the sky Or white fleecy clouds riding silently by. What a melody sweet is woven at dawn As each contributes to nature's song! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY A PRAYER FOR SPRING by MARGARET ELLIOTT |
