Let us walk together again, my little son.
A spring ago, I had you at my side
Your eager little steps to match my stride
Your tiny hand in mine, my little one.
A spring ago! We saw some naughty jays
And counted tulips opening on the walk
The silence of this hour can only mock
The happiness I felt on those spring days...
Unless...I close my eyes...to have you here.
I cannot clasp your hand, or hear you sing,
But we shall walk together through this spring
The world is gone, and only you are near
My love, and will and longing and my pain
Will bring you to my side, my son, again.
