THE PRISONER, by AFANASI AFANASIEVICH FET First Line: By bars of my prison Last Line: Hand files with a zest. Alternate Author Name(s): Foeth, Afanasy Afanasyveicht; Fet, Afanasy | |||
By bars of my prison The thick nettle lies; A willow has risen Pavilion-wise. Boats gaily are seeking The far-away blue; The lattice is creaking, My file passes through. My sorrowful dreaming Is quiet in me; The waters are gleaming, I soon shall be free. No gloom my heart darkens, My ache is at rest; And while my ear hearkens, Hand files with a zest. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SWALLOWS by AFANASI AFANASIEVICH FET TO THE STARS THAT HAVE GONE OUT by AFANASI AFANASIEVICH FET MEDITATION ON A JUNE EVENING by CONRAD AIKEN ODE TO EVENING by WILLIAM COLLINS (1721-1759) THE VANISHING BOAT by EDMUND WILLIAM GOSSE WOMAN'S WILL by JOHN GODFREY SAXE SONNET PREFIXED TO 'NENNIO, OR A TREATISE OF NOBILITY' by EDMUND SPENSER DOT LONG-HANDLED DIPPER by CHARLES FOLLEN ADAMS LITTLE BERNHARD by JOHANNA AMBROSIUS DEEP SUMMER by HARRIET GRAY BLACKWELL ENGLISH ENCOURAGEMENT OF ART (FIRST READING) by WILLIAM BLAKE |
