BLIND JOURNEY, by
First Line: Wild heart on wild heart beating
Last Line: I'll still be blind and you be leading.
Alternate Author Name(s): Wood, Charles Erskine Scoot, Mrs.

Wild heart on wild heart beating—
No, this is not for me:
Swift sail with swift sail meeting
In Love's bewildering sea.

For me a flight through a desolate land
Of lost horizons and sinking sand;
A frigid fog, a salty breath,
Pursuing the fleeting feet of Death.

O whither are you going,
Cold feet upon the fog,
With my steps after-speeding
Like Fate's subservient dog?
Why will not Love undo your spell—
Following, following, knowing well
That when I reach you, breathless and bleeding,
I'll still be blind and you be leading.
