OVER, by ROBERT FINCH First Line: It is over, the ceaseless search is over Last Line: Nothing to lose when what is lost was all. Subject(s): Grief; Longing; Loss; Relationships; Sorrow; Sadness | |||
It is over, the ceaseless search is over, Souls may collide but not like bodies mate, After collision they must separate, Minds are not twins as Calais is to Dover. Searching was half the world while searching lasted, Finding was all the world created new, Losing was hardest to believe come true, But search, find, loss, not one of them is wasted That shed this timeless moonlit week on week In an uncumulative series. Frost Could not quietlier gild and geld the fall. There is no search when nothing is left to seek, Nothing to find when what was found is lost, Nothing to lose when what is lost was all. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SONOMA FIRE by JANE HIRSHFIELD AS THE SPARKS FLY UPWARDS by JOHN HOLLANDER WHAT GREAT GRIEF HAS MADE THE EMPRESS MUTE by JUNE JORDAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 19 by JAMES JOYCE DIRGE AT THE END OF THE WOODS by LEONIE ADAMS |
