THE SITTING-DOWN TREE, by
First Line: When god turned aside
Last Line: And kept on sitting.
Subject(s): Beech Trees; Trees

When God turned aside
To
Reach
For
A trunk,
The copper beech
Sat
Down
To
Hide
The bright, yellow ruffles
Of her daffodil pantalettes
From the disdainful gaze
Of
The
Inquisitive
Lombardy.
"Look at that hussy, Lord!
She's
Rude
And
Lewd
And -- and -- practically nude!
What?
I don't care if she is poplar,
I'll
Not
Wear
Shorts!"
She said,
And kept on sitting.
