THE AZURE FROG: 1. PRAYER TO THE GOOD FORESTER, by PAUL FORT First Line: Good forester, upon our knees we pray you, tell us, if you please, how, Last Line: "man replied to me, ""by this, because he's never seen." Subject(s): Animals; Forests; Frogs; Prayer; Woods | ||||||||
Good forester, upon our knees we pray you, tell us, if you please, how, here amid his native bog, to know the famous azure frog? Because bright green the others are? because he's heavy? alert? Because he flees the ducks' voracious maws? or sways upon a nenuphar? Through his voice that sounds with pearly tone? because he bears a crest, maybe? or is wont to dream in company? beside his mate? or quite alone? Having reflected carefully, and scanned the bog with glances keen, the good old man replied to me, "By this, because he's never seen." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PRINCESS WAKES IN THE WOOD by RANDALL JARRELL CHAMBER MUSIC: 20 by JAMES JOYCE ADVICE TO A FOREST by MAXWELL BODENHEIM A SOUTH CAROLINA FOREST by AMY LOWELL JOY IN THE WOODS by CLAUDE MCKAY IN BLACKWATER WOODS by MARY OLIVER THE PLACE I WANT TO GET BACK TO by MARY OLIVER A PORTFOLIO OF SKETCHES: THE LITTLE ANNUITANT by PAUL FORT |
