SNOW, by BLANCHE M. GARDNER First Line: One night the wind and snow came down Last Line: But not my memory. Subject(s): Snow | ||||||||
One night the wind and snow came down To make way for the Spring; To clean the earth, and shine the trees, And dust off everything. Instead, they painted trees and shrubs, The house tops and the ground, A gleaming, dazzling virgin-white; They covered every mound. I raised my eyes and breathed a prayer For sight God gave to me That I might see this fairyland Of lace and filigree. Entranced, I looked until the Sun Came out in jealousy, Erasing beauty wrought at night, But not my memory. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BRIGHT SUN AFTER HEAVY SNOW by JANE KENYON SNOW FALLING THROUGH FOG by WILLIAM MATTHEWS THE SNOW FAIRY by CLAUDE MCKAY NOT ONLY ESKIMOS by LISEL MUELLER |
