HAUNTED HOUSE, by EDYTHE HOPE GENEE First Line: I don't know why I came; it haunts me so! Last Line: The things about this place that haunt me so! Subject(s): Haunted Houses; Mystery | ||||||||
I don't know why I came; it haunts me so! But something always draws me back again; Oh, it's just a foolish dream, I know, But something of me always will remain Within these walls; see how the shutters blow Cold and lonely by the window pane. We planted flowers here, a little row Of stiff and shining zinnias, tall and plain; And on the picket fence a lonesome crow Would always come and watch for scattered grain. Here by this window I would sit and sew, And lay her dresses on the counterpane; Such little things of lace and calico, I wondered if she ever would be vain. It's growing dark; she was afraid to go Upstairs to bed whenever it would rain, Then I would set the lamp so it would show Right up the steps; somehow, I can't explain, The things about this place that haunt me so! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TONE PICTURE (MALIPIERO: IMPRESSONI DAL VERO) by JEAN STARR UNTERMEYER FLAMMONDE by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON SATAN ABSOLVED; A VICTORIAN MYSTERY by WILFRID SCAWEN BLUNT SANDY STAR: 4.
