HOTEL, by GAYLE GIBLIN First Line: A thousand rooms in a beautiful home Last Line: This home is a grotesque fantasy. Subject(s): Home; Hotels; Rooms; Inns; Innskeepers; Motels; Boarding Houses | ||||||||
A thousand rooms in a beautiful home For men and women who like to roam. Hundreds of unseen feet and hands Ready to rush at slightest commands. A million dreams of a journey's end A haven to thousands who have a friend. Rivers of tears and grim despair, To tens of thousands who anchor there. Happiness -- loneliness -- side by side. Each has his alcove -- each has his pride. And whom shall know the good or bad And which are happy and which are sad? A thousand doors -- all barred to me. This home is a grotesque fantasy. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LOOKING FOR THE GULF MOTEL by RICHARD BLANCO WHAT THE MAGDALENE SAW by TIMOTHY LIU REMOVED AT THE MOMENT OF PERFECTION by TIMOTHY LIU MARRY AT A HOTEL, ANNUL ?ÇÖEM by HARRYETTE MULLEN THE KEEPER OF THE DEAD HOTEL by AGHA SHAHID ALI IN GEORGETOWN; HOLIDAY INN, WASHINGTON, D.C. by HAYDEN CARRUTH OUTSIDE ROOM SIX by LYNN EMANUEL FREE FANTASIA ON JAPANESE THEMES by AMY LOWELL |
