THE WHIPPOORWILL'S SONG, by ELIZABETH COX GILLILAND First Line: Whippoorwill is calling Last Line: Twill be home to me. Subject(s): Birds; Whipporwills | ||||||||
Whippoorwill is calling, Calling, calling me, All the night enthralling With his melody. Something magic in his voice Makes the tired soul rejoice, Brings again the carefree years, Drives away unbidden tears. Came this weird bird of the night, Warily hidden out of sight, To sing to me his "whippoorwill." How I love his joyous trill! Though I wander o'er the main, Though I suffer anguish, pain, If again at twilight hour, Hidden in his leafy bower, Whippoorwill is calling, calling, 'Twill be home to me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A WHIPPOORWILL IN THE WOODS by AMY CLAMPITT PRICELESS GIFTS by OLIVE MAY COOK AT THE TOUCH OF A BIRD by LILLIAN IONE OLSEN SONGS TO A.H.R.: 10.
