ON A SOUTHERN BEACH, by W. A. GODWARD First Line: Far endless stretches of bright yellow sand Last Line: We shall have this with which to compensate! Subject(s): Seashore; Beach; Coast; Shore | ||||||||
Far endless stretches of bright yellow sand; Green rollers mounting to a foaming break; The rush of waters which deep billows make Before they spend themselves upon the land! And down the changing vista of the strand Gay forms in motion flash upon the eye, As swimmers take the wave or turn and fly -- Barbaric as a scene in Samarkand! Such gaiety the cumbered heart delights; Nature and man in wild simplicity; Laughter and exultation of the sea; And summer days and witching summer nights! Whatever we may meet at hands of fate, We shall have this with which to compensate! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SEASHORE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS EASTERN LONG ISLAND by MARVIN BELL THE WIND IS BLOWING WEST by JOSEPH CERAVOLO IF SOMETHING SHOULD HAPPEN by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER EMPTIES INTO THE GULF by LUCILLE CLIFTON GEOGRAPHY AS WARNING by MADELINE DEFREES POWER FAILURE by MADELINE DEFREES ON THE BUST OF HELEN BY CANOVA by GEORGE GORDON BYRON TO LUCY, COUNTESS OF BEDFORD, WITH MR.
