DECEMBER LAKE, by EDYTHE BARRETT GOELTZ First Line: Each wave whispered of a departed summer Last Line: And meet it as one. Subject(s): Cold; December; Farewell; Solitude; Parting; Loneliness | ||||||||
Each wave whispered of a departed summer, Of warm sands and a careless sky Of gentle waters lapping forth frost crested wavelets, Wavelets being tossed lightly on shore. Then a chilled sea scented breeze wafted away the last of summer, Of warmth and contentment. Now the long white cold beach lay before me Wrapped in a gray monotony. Vap'rous mists of drifted snow swirled madly about my feet buried in the ragged snow swept shore line. And I gazed into the icy distance Of an infinite, abysmal expanse of wind driven waters. One wave frantically forced another down Only to be lashed aside itself by one greater and more treacherous. While ever the defiant skyline challenged the restless sea to reach forth And meet it as one. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES DAYBREAK by EDYTHE BARRETT GOELTZ |
