THE FIREFLY LAMPS, by ARLETTA B. GRAVES First Line: There must have been fairies in that magic place Last Line: We'd breath a prayer that our lights would keep. Subject(s): Fairies; Lamps; Spring; Elves | ||||||||
There must have been fairies in that magic place, For the silvery dew hung in points of sheer lace, The fireflies flickered like specks of rare gold, And proud were we if those bugs we could hold, Those live gleaming lanterns of Spring's first nights, Gathered from blue-flags and tall grasses for lights. When done with our play and early to bed, Those spirited bugs blazed night-lights ahead, Into a tumbler, turned down with great care, The firefly lamps had glass coverings to wear, And before we would close our eyes in sleep, We'd breath a prayer that our lights would keep. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE FAERY FOREST by SARA TEASDALE THE LAND OF HEART'S DESIRE by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS THE FAIRIES by WILLIAM ALLINGHAM THE FAIRY CHILD by JOHN ANSTER THE FORSAKEN MERMAN by MATTHEW ARNOLD THE LITTLE ELF-MAN by JOHN KENDRICK BANGS TAM O' SHANTER by ROBERT BURNS A BOOK OF AIRS: SONG 19.
