MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT, by MARY WALTER GREEN First Line: Hold your ear to the ground - you will scarcely believe Last Line: And weave mad dreams around your head! Subject(s): April; Morning | ||||||||
Hold your ear to the ground -- you will scarcely believe The commotion an April morning makes; Such stirrings and stretchings, such mighty yawns When a yellow crocus wakes. At noon the trees are garlanded with song; A gold bee sleeps in the heart of a rose; The wheat is saffron, the thistle brown, And across dun hills a salt wind blows. At night beware that sorceress, the moon, Lest she bewitch you in your bed; She'll lay slim fingers on your brow And weave mad dreams around your head! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MORNING SONG by KARLE WILSON BAKER THE WHARF ON THAMES-SIDE: WINTER DAWN by LAURENCE BINYON POEM BEFORE BREAKFAST by TED KOOSER I'VE BEEN ASLEEP by PHILIP LEVINE SPRNG DAY: BREAKFAST TABLE by AMY LOWELL THE WAYSIDE STATION by EDWIN MUIR |
