PRAIRIES, by JACK GREENBERG First Line: A rolling ocean heaving with green blades Last Line: The prairies breathe a secret that's supreme. | |||
A rolling ocean heaving with green blades And sporting gleamy blooms of sundry hue The prairies rest beneath the misty shades Or spread with wanton yield their gorgeous view. Like tiny ships the cattle move about, And houses rise like cliffs above the wave, Beyond the reach of gaze horizons flout The challenge of the venturous margrave. A boundless ocean is this vast expanse Of mighty level, soul of vanquished seas That whispers indestructible romance And wakens not to be forgotten pleas. As lover left with unrequited dream, The prairies breathe a secret that's supreme. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LIFE AND WATER by JACK GREENBERG THREE DREAMS by JACK GREENBERG SPELT FROM SIBYL'S LEAVES by GERARD MANLEY HOPKINS BOUND NO'TH BLUES by JAMES LANGSTON HUGHES CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS IN MEMORIAM A.H.H.: 119 by ALFRED TENNYSON THE STEAM-ENGINE: CANTO 6.
