THE PRAIRIE, by DIANA ULINE GROVE First Line: What is it that holds me on this prairie unadorned? Last Line: My soul cried out and found its god. Subject(s): Prairies; Plains | ||||||||
What is it that holds me on this prairie unadorned? No enchanted valley breathing purple calm No spirit-lifting hilltops steeped in dreams No quiet sea whereon to rest my weary eyes; Not even the lovely shadows of a perfect tree. Sometimes I hate it for its dull and deadly self But always in my inmost heart I know what holds me fast, Once in the ghostly beauty of a lonely, autumn night, My soul cried out and found its God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LEFT-HANDED POEM by JAMES GALVIN NO COMPLAINTS; FOR ROBERT GRENIER by ANSELM HOLLO POINT OF ROCKS, TEXAS by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAIRIE HOUSES by BARBARA GUEST AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL by KATHARINE LEE BATES THE PRAIRIES by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT TO MAKE A PRAIRIE by EMILY DICKINSON THE PRAIRIE-GRASS DIVIDING by WALT WHITMAN SYMPHONY OF THE SOIL by EVA K.
