MOTHER NATURE SPEAKS, by GERTRUDE HANSON First Line: I am your mother: the maimed one, forgotten, neglected Last Line: Till you, in repentance, shall bow to your mother earth. Subject(s): Nature | ||||||||
I am your mother: the maimed one, forgotten, neglected, The one whose lessons you spurned; I am the old one whose counsel you scorned and rejected . . . But you cannot flee from the penalty you have earned. You are my children who gouged me, your greed never sated; The thieves who stripped my breast Heedlessly, lustfully, leaving me comfortless, naked . . . But you shall be chastened and you shall be left oppressed. I shall send floods that will scourge you and leave you forsaken; And pain that comes from dearth. I shall be pitiless, leaving you beaten and shaken . . . Till you, in repentance, shall bow to your Mother Earth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...INTERRUPTED MEDITATION by ROBERT HASS TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN WRITING IS AN AID TO MEMORY: 17 by LYN HEJINIAN LET US GATHER IN A FLOURISHING WAY by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA IN MICHAEL ROBINS?ÇÖS CLASS MINUS ONE by HICOK.
