BIRDS OF SPRING, by BELLE RICHARDSON HARRISON Poet's Biography First Line: Cheerily, merrily, heralds of spring Last Line: Our hearts with delight. Subject(s): Happiness; Spring; Joy; Delight | ||||||||
CHEERILY, merrily, heralds of Spring, Carol your melodies, poised on the wing. Pour from your slender and velvety throats Ravishing strains of musical notes. Tiny, bright songsters, dainty and sweet, First in the morning your Maker to greet, His praises you warble on hill-top and plain Till jubilant nature repeats the refrain Your happiness trilling, With melody filling, Filling and thrilling Our hearts with delight. Building your nests in leafy-screened bowers, Sipping the sweets that well in the flowers, Laving your wings in the clear, limpid stream, Drinking the waters that sparkle and gleam, Swaying on tree-top or pillowed at rest Contented with life if barren or blest A message of gladness and brightness you bring; We welcome your coming, sweet heralds of Spring. Your happiness trilling, With melody filling, Filling and thrilling Our hearts with delight. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE STUDY OF HAPPINESS by KENNETH KOCH SO MUCH HAPPINESS by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE CROWD CONDITIONS by JOHN ASHBERY I WILL NOT BE CLAIMED by MARVIN BELL THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#21): 1.
