PEACE, BE STILL, by JAMES C. HAUPT First Line: Brave men go out to sea / in ships of wood Last Line: They worship him -- rejoice! Subject(s): Storms | ||||||||
Brave men go out to sea In ships of wood and steel; With joyful hearts so light and free, No danger do they feel. When storm-clouds fill the sky And waves about them roll, And roar, and pile up mountain high, These men give thought to soul. They pray that their good ship May brave the mighty storm, A fervent prayer on every lip, "Deliver us from harm!" They scan the troubled waves; They reef a tattered sail; They haul in chains and rope, like slaves; Prayer seems of no avail. Out on the stormy sea, He walks upon the waves, They faintly see their Lord, "'Tis He!" With outstretched hand, He saves! The winds obey His will, And with His sweetest voice He gently speaks, 'tis "Peace, Be Still!" They worship Him -- Rejoice! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...STORM AT HOPTIME by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN THERE IS A SOLEMN WIND TONIGHT by KATHERINE MANSFIELD DEWEY AND DANCER by JOSEPHINE MILES MICHAEL IS AFRAID OF THE STORM by GWENDOLYN BROOKS BREACHING THE ROCK by MADELINE DEFREES THE CLOUDS ABOVE THE OCEAN by STEPHEN DOBYNS OF POLITICS, & ART by NORMAN DUBIE TREMENDOUS WIND AND RAIN by ANSELM HOLLO THE IVY COVERED CHURCH by JAMES C.
