ACROSS THE YEARS, by MAUDE HAYNES First Line: Through endless years I can't forget! Last Line: That you have not forgotten me! Alternate Author Name(s): Hollowell, William Paul, Mrs. Subject(s): Time | ||||||||
Through endless years I can't forget! 'Twas in the fall, like this, we met. I liked the way you walked along And on your lips a little song Was floating out upon the air; The moon made patterns on your hair! I loved the way you laughed at me -- You weren't more than twenty-three And I was twenty-one that day. There seemed so much we had to say -- Important things -- we hardly knew How swift the shining hours flew. So many autumn moons have caught Me in their headlong spell and brought Me ache and bruised the peace we knew. Today my eyes met yours, and you Seemed hurt and lonely. Could it be That you have not forgotten me! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEVEN EYES: FINAL SECTION by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: COME OCTOBER by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN SLOWLY: I FREQUENTLY SLOWLY WISH by LYN HEJINIAN ALL THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND MINUTES by JANE HIRSHFIELD A DAY IS VAST by JANE HIRSHFIELD |
