GOTHIC CATHEDRAL, by CLARENCE L. HAYNIE First Line: I know that god himself inspired the man Last Line: Like hands that clasp above the breast in prayer. Subject(s): Churches; Cathedrals | |||
I know that God himself inspired the man Whose soul conceived the lovely Gothic arch Who dreamed the beauty of the graceful span Above the door through which the humble march. The Gothic motif crowns each leaded pane, Whence mellow light of muted candles shine; The whole cathedral's pattern breathes again, In each detail of its beloved design. I love the quiet beauty of this church, Whose flowing lines are softly reverent; Where one who seeks repose may end his search, For here the love of God is evident.... These Gothic curves that fuse and pierce the air Like hands that clasp above the breast in prayer. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...VIRGIN IN GLASS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE HOUR BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF: 3.
