TO E.B. ON HER BIRTHDAY, by FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: To thee, sweet girl, these lays impart Last Line: Till on her cheek the rose expand. Alternate Author Name(s): Browne, Felicia Dorothea Subject(s): Birthdays | ||||||||
To thee, sweet girl, these lays impart, The genuine friendship of my heart. Oh! be this day for ever blest; I hail it with my gayest measure; And may thy sympathetic breast Enjoy affection, love, and pleasure. And if thy heart should ever mourn, May friendship soothe the anxious sorrow; Till hope with lovely smile return, To promise thee a brighter morrow. And ah! may health benignly shed Her blessings o'er thy sister's head; And nurse the charge with influence bland, Till on her cheek the rose expand. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BIRTHDAY (AUTOBIOGRAPHY) by ROBINSON JEFFERS POEM FOR MY TWENTIETH BIRTHDAY by KENNETH KOCH A HAPPY BIRTHDAY by TED KOOSER FOR A SOLDIER'S BIRTHDAY by EVE MERRIAM PICTURE THIS:/ FOR THE 100TH BIRTHDAY OF QUEEN ELIZABETH THE QUEEN MOTHER by ANDREW MOTION POEM FOR MY BIRTHDAY by LISEL MUELLER A DIRGE (1) by FELICIA DOROTHEA HEMANS |
