WEATHER WISDOM, by VIVIAN HEYERDAHL First Line: The day has a secret it warily keeps Last Line: Winking obscenly, finger to mouth. Subject(s): Wind | ||||||||
The day has a secret it warily keeps Hugged to its bosom in fog and rain, Like a hag with a filthy bundle and cane Who shuffles at corners and vacantly weeps. None of the clumsy pryings of man -- Barometer, or neat device, Finger in wind, or vane -- suffice To prophesy what morning began. Whether the wind will veer to south Or howl from northward, nobody knows Save the loony hag in rain-soaked clothes, Winking obscenly, finger to mouth. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE THREE CHILDREN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN THE WIND by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN LEAF LITTER ON ROCK FACE by HEATHER MCHUGH RESIDENTIAL AREA by JOSEPHINE MILES THE DAY THE WINDS by JOSEPHINE MILES VARIATIONS: 12 by CONRAD AIKEN OH IT'S PRETTY WINDY OUTSIDE by LARRY EIGNER CURTAIN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON |
