FACES, by LENORA K. HILLIARD First Line: Faces, faces everywhere / glad faces, sad faces Last Line: Was my mother's dying face. Subject(s): Mothers | ||||||||
Faces, faces everywhere Glad faces, sad faces All along the sidewalks of our busy cities: Faces full of lust, faces full of greed, Faces full of laughter, faces full of smiles, Faces full of tears, faces that mourn, Faces that are saintly, faces that are cruel, Smiling faces of little girls without any guile, Faces of little boys planning impish tricks -- Faces of those that practice noble deeds. Faces, faces everywhere Glad faces, sad faces Throughout our countryside, Faces full of kindliness, faces full of scorn, Faces full of tenderness, faces full of anxiety, But of all the faces everywhere I hold in memory's store -- most precious to me, Was my mother's dying face. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MY MOTHER'S HANDS by ANDREW HUDGINS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS IN THE 25TH YEAR OF MY MOTHER'S DEATH by JUDY JORDAN THE PAIDLIN' WEAN by ALEXANDER ANDERSON BLASTING FROM HEAVEN by PHILIP LEVINE A LITTLE WHILE by HORATIO (HORATIUS) BONAR THE WIND'S VISIT by EMILY DICKINSON SING-SONG; A NURSERY RHYME BOOK: 50 by CHRISTINA GEORGINA ROSSETTI |
