THE SOWER, by DOROTHY PRESSLER HILLYER First Line: I am the man who sows the seed Last Line: How bravely a man can die. Subject(s): Plants; Planting; Planters | ||||||||
I am the man who sows the seed, I am the man who dares to plant, But of my sowing springs the weed, Laughter stings in the wind's wild rant. Ah, scarlet bleeds my crooked row, And awkward lies my pregnant land, And warped indeed my broken hoe, Callouses fill my scarred hand -- But I will plant and plant again, Lest I should fail without a try. I'll show the earth and sun and rain How bravely a man can die. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...KILLING THE PLANTS by JANE KENYON NOW I AM A PLANT, A WEED by KATHERINE MANSFIELD TANKA DIARY (5) by HARRYETTE MULLEN THE REWARD by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON |
