SPRING MORNING, by SARAH SHOOK HUGHLETT First Line: The dew is bright this morning Last Line: The love you sing to me. Subject(s): Love | |||
The dew is bright this morning, And fair is every flower. A sparrow sings in the green oak tree Above our breakfast bower. He sings a song as joyous As the song of a bird may be; But he cannot reach the notes of love That my soul sings to thee. I love his lilting measures To his mate in the green oak tree; But, oh, he can not fathom The love you sing to me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD LILACS AND JONQUILS by SARAH SHOOK HUGHLETT |
