At dusk the wood bird's song continuous rang Like distant silver bells of utter sweetness. "Veery, veery, veery," long it sang Until -- O interval of rich repleteness -- The moon with deft and gleaming fingers played On silvered waves a tinkling serenade. The dulcet water harmony I heard Accompanied the music of the bird. Air, earth, and sky responded to the theme That night when Summer dreamed a silver dream. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY MONOLOGUE FROM A MATTRESS by LOUIS UNTERMEYER |
