My white, my shining girl, As pretty as a pearl; When I woo her dearly She melts away, or nearly. Spotted each pale cheek With a musk-jet streak; Beauty all excelling There is dwelling. I said to her, as through My heart (and well I knew) Her moles sent thrills of passion In so sweet a fashion: 'Live your favours in The whiteness of your skin, And is that blackness token Of hate, and my heart broken?' 'My father', answered she, 'A royal scribe was he; His love so ringed about me, He could not be without me.
