THIS DECEMBER, by MOLLY INGER First Line: December - and a few dead leaves on trees Last Line: Just yearning -- ever yearning. Subject(s): December; Longing | ||||||||
December -- and a few dead leaves on trees That mourned their summer's gay attire, Their branches stiffened to the breeze In white frost, a sad song inspired In my lonely heart. What is there in the sky above And in the stars out yonder That makes me think of you, my love, And ponder -- ponder -- ponder? 'Tis not a night for pondering Snow beats hard the pane -- And yet I go on wondering Through sunlight, snows, and rain. Thinking of a June that's past And nevermore returning Living on dreams that can't come true -- Just yearning -- ever yearning. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ABOARD!
